How do I give fans a discount with a promo code?
A promo code gives fans a discount they type at checkout. The discount comes out of your ticket price.
Create a code
- Open your event and go to the Promo codes tab.
- Tap Create code.
- Type the code. It can use 4 to 32 letters, numbers,
-or_. - Choose Percent or Amount off each ticket, then type the value.
- Under Applies to, leave All tickets or choose the ticket types. Free and sold-out ticket types are greyed out, with the reason.
- Optional: set Limit total uses, Limit per order, and Starts and Ends times. The times are in the event's time zone.
- Check the preview line. It shows what a fan pays and what you receive for one ticket.
- Tap Create code.
See how a code is doing
Tap a code in the list. The panel beside it shows Uses, Reserved (how many tickets are in checkout right now), Discount given and Ticket revenue.
To turn a code off, tap the three dots on its row and choose Turn off. Choose Turn on to bring it back. Delete only works on a code nobody has used.
Things to know
- Who pays for the discount: you do. It comes out of your ticket price. The fan's 7% + $1 is worked out on the discounted price.
- Limits count tickets, not orders. A limit of 50 means 50 tickets.
- A refund doesn't give a use back. A "first 50" code stays at 50, so nobody can refund and rebuy to reuse it.
- 100% off makes tickets free. Free tickets have no fee. They count toward the limit of 10 free tickets per person per event per day.
- Big discounts need longer codes. Codes for 50% off or more need at least 6 characters, so they're harder to guess.
- One code per order.
- Once a code has been used, its discount can't change. You can still change the limit or the end date, or turn it off. Turn a used code off instead of deleting it.
- Change the discount and the ticket types in two separate saves. The dialog does this for you when you change both.
